Growatt Car Charging Station, 7 KW, THOR 07AS-S

This is the wall charger that makes the most of an ordinary single-phase connection: 7 kW, that is several times faster than a household socket. The "S" version has a socket on the body of the station, not an attached cable, so each driver uses their own cable, and nothing is left hanging on the wall between sessions. It is the preferred variant where the station is used by several people or is located in a shared space.

The maximum output current is 32 A at 230 V, which gives the 7 kW. The station has four operating modes that completely change the economics of charging: Fast, for maximum speed; PV Linkage, which charges from the surplus of a Growatt photovoltaic system; Off-peak, which moves the charging into the reduced-tariff hours; and Load balancing, which automatically reduces the current when the rest of the house is consuming a lot, so that the main fuse does not trip. The session is started from the app, by simply plugging in the car or with an RFID card, useful when the station is used by several people. The IP65 enclosure allows outdoor installation, with operation between -25 and +50 °C, and standby consumption stays below 8 W. The body measures 240 x 380 x 164 mm and weighs 7 kg; it is fixed to the wall with the included bracket or, optionally, on a floor pole.

Terms explained

• OCPP 1.6: A standard protocol through which the station can be registered in a charging network and billed centrally, regardless of the manufacturer.
• Load balancing: The station reduces its own power when the rest of the building is consuming a lot, so that the connection limit is not exceeded and the main fuse does not trip.
• PV Linkage: The mode in which the car is charged with the energy produced by the panels and left unconsumed, instead of it being sent into the grid.

The Growatt THOR 07AS-S is the 7 kW single-phase AC charging station in the THOR range, supplied at 230 V AC / 50-60 Hz, with a maximum output current of 32 A.
