Description

It is the box you mount on the garage wall or next to the parking space and from which you power your electric car. It already has the cable attached, five metres long, with a plug that goes directly into the car socket, so you no longer look for the cable in the boot every time. Charging starts by holding up an RFID card (a contactless access card, like the one at the office), from the phone app or simply by plugging in. A screen, a status LED and a red emergency stop button show you and leave you in control of what is happening.

The station works on a three-phase 400 V connection and delivers a maximum of 32 A on each phase, that is 22 kW; as a guide, on a car whose on-board charger accepts this power, one hour of charging puts approximately 22 kWh into the battery, while on cars that accept less the speed is dictated by the car, not by the station. The PV Linkage mode uses the surplus from the panels on the house for charging, the Off-peak mode postpones charging to the night tariff interval, and Load balancing automatically reduces the current when the rest of the house consumes a lot, so as not to trip the main breaker. The enclosure has IP65 protection rating and works between -25 and +50 °C, so it can stay outdoors, on a wall or on a floor pedestal (optional), without a canopy. It occupies 240 x 380 x 164 mm, weighs 12,5 kg (more than the socket variant, because of the cable) and consumes less than 8 W on standby, that is practically nothing. It requires no periodic maintenance: cooling is natural, without a fan.

Supply 400 V a.c., 50/60 Hz, output 32 A/phase, fixed 5 m cable with Type 2 plug per IEC 62196-2. Protections against overvoltage, undervoltage, overload, short circuit, overtemperature and lightning, internal RCD and 6 mA DC fault current detection. Admissible humidity 5-95% non-condensing, altitude below 2000 m. Communication over Ethernet and Wi-Fi, optional 4G module, OCPP 1.6 protocol; optional MID meter for billing. CE certification to EN 61851-1, EN 61851-22, EN 61000-6-1, EN 61000-6-3 and IEC 62196.

Who it suits

Suitable for a house or a company with a three-phase 400 V connection and its own parking space, especially if the car accepts 22 kW in alternating current and you want to charge from the photovoltaic surplus or at night, on a reduced tariff.

Terms explained

  • PV Linkage: A working mode in which the station charges the car with the energy produced by the panels on the house and left unconsumed, instead of sending it into the grid.
  • Load balancing: The station follows how much the rest of the house consumes and automatically lowers the charging current, so as not to exceed the contracted power and not to trip the main breaker.
  • OCPP 1.6: A common language through which charging stations of any brand can be controlled and billed from a central platform.

  • Photovoltaic self-consumption with Growatt inverters, in PV Linkage mode
  • Company car parks with RFID authorisation and consumption records

Technical details

Specifications confirmed from the manufacturer's datasheet

Growatt THOR 22AS-P-V1 is the attached-cable version of the three-phase 22 kW station of the THOR range. The supply is 400 V a.c. at 50/60 Hz, the maximum output current is 32 A per phase, and the maximum charging power 22 kW. Unlike the "S" variant (with socket), the "P" version comes with a fixed 5 m cable and Type 2 plug per IEC 62196-2, so it connects directly to the car, without a separate cable.

The station integrates protections against overvoltage, undervoltage, overload, short circuit, overtemperature and lightning, an internal RCD and 6 mA DC fault current detection. The enclosure has IP65 protection rating, works between -25 and +50 °C, at 5-95% humidity non-condensing and altitude below 2000 m, with natural cooling and standby consumption below 8 W. The overall size is 240 x 380 x 164 mm and the weight 12,5 kg (higher than the socket variant, because of the cable). Mounting is done on a wall or on a floor pedestal (optional).

The user has an LCD screen, a status LED and an emergency stop button, and session authorisation is done through the app, Plug&Charge or RFID card. Communication is over Ethernet and Wi-Fi, with an optional 4G module, with OCPP 1.6 protocol. The working modes include Fast, PV Linkage for charging from the photovoltaic surplus, Off-peak for night tariffs and Load balancing for automatic current limitation according to the building consumption. Optional MID meter. CE certification to EN 61851-1, EN 61851-22, EN 61000-6-3, EN 61000-6-1 and IEC 62196.
