Description

Growatt THOR 03AS-S is a charging station for electric cars, made for homes that have single-phase power, that is most houses. It has no attached cable, but a socket into which you plug your own cable - so nothing stays hanging outside between charges. It is mounted on a wall or on a pole and is controlled from the phone.

At 3,6 kW it puts approximately 15-20 kWh into the car overnight, which fully covers a plug-in hybrid or an electric city car used daily for commuting (indicative estimate, depending on the car and on the charging duration). It has four working modes: Fast, at maximum power; PV Linkage, which takes energy from the surplus of a Growatt photovoltaic system; Off-peak, which starts charging in the cheap time slots; and Load balancing, which automatically reduces the current when the house consumes a lot, so that the main fuse does not trip. The IP65 enclosure withstands the outdoors, at temperatures between -25 and +50 degrees C, and at rest it consumes under 8 W. It weighs 7 kg and measures 240 x 380 x 164 mm, so it is fixed on the wall without special works; the floor pole is optional.

Supply 230 V a.c. single-phase, 50/60 Hz, maximum output current 16 A, maximum power 3,6 kW; Type 2 socket interface according to IEC 62196-2, without cable included. Protections against overvoltage, undervoltage, overload, short circuit, overtemperature and lightning, internal RCD and 6 mA direct residual current detection. IP65, -25...+50 °C, humidity 5-95% without condensation, altitude below 2000 m, natural cooling, standby consumption under 8 W, 240 x 380 x 164 mm, 7 kg. Communication Ethernet and Wi-Fi, 4G optional, protocol OCPP 1.6; activation from the app or Plug&Charge, status LED, emergency stop button, optional MID meter; CE certification (LVD and EMC) according to EN 61851-1, EN 61851-22, EN 61000-6-1/-6-3 and IEC 62196.

Who it suits

Suitable for a house with a single-phase connection and limited available power, with a plug-in hybrid or a small electric car charged overnight.

Terms explained

  • Type 2 socket (the "S" version): The station has only the European standard socket, and you bring the cable yourself - useful in shared car parks, where a cable left on the station would be exposed.
  • Load balancing: The station watches how much the house consumes and lowers the charging current by itself, so that the power of the subscription is not exceeded and the fuse does not trip.
  • OCPP 1.6: The common language of charging stations, through which they can be connected to management and billing platforms.

Technical details

Specifications confirmed from the manufacturer's datasheet

Growatt THOR 03AS-S-V1 is the single-phase input version of the THOR range, with a 230 V a.c. supply at 50/60 Hz, maximum output current 16 A and maximum power of 3,6 kW. The model is of the "S" (socket) type, that is it has the Type 2 socket according to IEC 62196-2 mounted on the station, and the charging cable is the user's own - a practical solution in shared car parks, where the cable does not stay exposed.

The protections are integrated: overvoltage, undervoltage, overload, short circuit, overtemperature, lightning protection and 6 mA direct residual current detection, alongside the internal RCD. The enclosure has an IP65 protection rating and withstands temperatures from -25 to +50 °C, humidity 5-95% without condensation and altitudes below 2000 m. Cooling is natural, and standby consumption is under 8 W. The station measures 240 x 380 x 164 mm and weighs 7 kg, being mounted on a wall or on a floor pole (the pole is optional).

The station works in four modes: Fast (charging at maximum power), PV Linkage (charging from the photovoltaic surplus of an existing or new Growatt system), Off-peak (charging in the cheap time slots) and Load balancing (automatic limiting of the current according to the house consumption, so as not to exceed the connection). Communication is done through Ethernet and Wi-Fi, with 4G optional, and the supported protocol is OCPP 1.6. Charging is activated from the app or Plug&Charge, with a status LED indicator and an emergency stop button; the MID meter is optional. CE certification (LVD and EMC) according to EN 61851-1, EN 61851-22, EN 61000-6-3, EN 61000-6-1 and IEC 62196.
