Description

This splitter is the other half of a parallel connection node: it has three male terminals, into which the female ends of the three strings of panels are plugged, and a common female terminal, which runs off towards the inverter. In practice, any connection between panels has two wires, plus and minus, and each wire needs its own splitter. This version is fitted on the complementary polarity relative to the splitter with three female terminals, and the two are bought and used together.

With the complete pair you can bring three strings of panels onto the same inverter input, which helps when you want more power but the string voltage can no longer be increased. The part is mounted outdoors and has an IP68 protection rating, so it withstands rain, dust and permanent exposure. It accepts solar cable with cross-sections from 2.5 up to 10 mm², the usual range in home installations, and the ratchet nut of the cable gland does not come loose by itself once tightened. Important during installation: the sum of the currents of the three strings passes through the common terminal, so the cable leaving from there and its protection are sized for the combined current.

Rated voltage 1500 V DC, certifications UL 6703, EN 50521 class A (TUV) and JET, protection rating IP68. The contact is made using Amphenol's RADSOK technology, a hyperboloid lamella with a large contact surface and low contact resistance, which limits ohmic losses and heating in the paralleling node, where the current is at its maximum. The H4 UTX family covers cross-sections of 2.5-10 mm² (14-8 AWG) and is intermateable with H4 and H4 UTX connectors and with industry-standard MC4-type PV connectors. In configurations with three or more strings in parallel, string fuses are provided to limit the reverse current, and the downstream cable is calculated for the combined current.

Who it suits

Suitable for anyone building a paralleling node for three strings of panels who needs the part on the complementary polarity, in hybrid or off-grid systems.

Terms explained

  • Polarity: The two wires of a direct current circuit, plus and minus; each needs its own joining part.
  • Paralleling node: The point at which several strings of panels join into a single cable run.
  • Reverse current: Current that flows back into a weakened string from the other strings; string fuses limit it.

  • Hybrid and off-grid systems with modules in parallel on the same MPPT
  • Extending installations with existing H4 or MC4 connectors

Technical details

Series-level specifications — valid for the product family

This splitter from the Amphenol H4 UTX family has a male-male-male-female configuration: three male terminals, into which the female connectors of the three strings are plugged, and a common female terminal towards the inverter or towards the junction box. It is the complementary version of the female-female-female-male splitter and is fitted on the opposite polarity, the two together forming the paralleling node for three strings.

The contact is made using Amphenol's RADSOK technology, a hyperboloid lamella that maximises the contact surface and maintains a low contact resistance. The practical consequence is reduced heating of the joint and low ohmic losses, an aspect that matters precisely in paralleling nodes, where the current is combined. The H4 UTX connector is certified for 1500 V DC under UL 6703, EN 50521 class A (TUV) and JET, has an IP68 protection rating and covers, at family level, cables from 2.5 mm2 (14 AWG) up to 10 mm2 (8 AWG). The cable gland nut has a ratchet, so it does not unscrew through reverse rotation after installation.

Mating compatibility covers H4 and H4 UTX connectors and industry-standard MC4-type PV connectors, which allows integration into already existing installations.

During design it must be taken into account that the common arm carries the sum of the currents of the three strings. The cable cross-section and the downstream overcurrent protection are sized for the combined current, and in configurations with three or more strings in parallel, string fuses are required to limit the reverse current.
