Battery management module Huawei LUNA2000-5KW-C0

This is the „control” part of the Huawei battery, not the battery itself - it contains no cells and stores no energy. Its role is to adapt the voltage of the battery modules to what the inverter expects and to manage charging, discharging and balancing. On top of it, like drawers, one, two or three battery modules of 5 kWh each are placed, and their combination gives the 5, 10 or 15 kWh systems.

It is the mandatory part in any LUNA2000-S0 system, whether a new stack is being built or the control module is being replaced in an existing installation. It weighs 12 kg and is mounted on a wall or on a floor stand; the whole assembly is IP66, so it can also stay outdoors, in the rain, in the -20...+55 °C range, and the noise in operation stays below 29 dB, that is below the level of a quiet room. The Huawei architecture manages each module separately, which means that all the available energy can be used and that, if a new module is added two years later, the old one does not drag the whole system down.

LUNA2000-5KW-C0 is the power and control module of the Huawei LUNA2000-5/10/15-S0 storage system. It contains no cells and stores no energy: it includes the DC/DC converter and the management electronics that adapt the voltage of the battery modules to the level required by the SUN2000 inverter and that manage charging, discharging and balancing. On top of it one, two or three LUNA2000-5-E0 battery modules of 5 kWh are stacked, resulting in the 5, 10 or 15 kWh configurations.

On the output side, the rated voltage is 450 V with a range of 350-560 V for single-phase systems and 600 V with a range of 600-980 V for three-phase systems. Communication is over RS485, and the CAN interface is used for parallel operation of several stacks. The Huawei architecture is of the smart string type, with module-level optimisation, which allows 100% of the available energy to be used and modules to be added later without the system being limited by the weakest element.
