Description

This is the control box of a Deye battery cabinet from the BOS-A series, not a battery itself. Inside are the main BMS, the contactors that connect and disconnect the bank from the installation, the fuses and the interface through which the battery system tells the inverter how much energy it still has and whether it can charge or discharge. In practice, it is the part that turns a stack of modules into a working storage system.

A single such unit can coordinate between 7 and 21 BOS-A-Pack7.68 modules, that is a bank between 53,76 and 161,28 kWh - from storage for a commercial space up to a complete industrial system. The working current of 160 A allows fast charging and discharging, and the bank voltage rises with the number of modules: 235,2-306,6 V with 7 modules, 436,8-569,4 V with 13 modules and 705,6-919,8 V with 21 modules. The unit permanently monitors the voltage, current, temperature and state of charge and shuts the system down if anything goes out of limits. It is rack-mounted, inside the cabinet, so it needs a dry technical space.

Model BOS-A-PDU-2 / HVB 750V/160A-EU, working current 160 A, managed modules 7-21 x BOS-A-Pack7.68 (each 38,4 V / 200 Ah). Functions: real-time monitoring of voltage, current, temperature and state of charge, cell balancing, protections against overvoltage, overcurrent, short circuit and temperature outside the permitted range. Communication with the inverter via CAN 2.0, rack mounting, protection rating IP20, operating temperature -20...55 degrees C, humidity 5-85% RH, maximum altitude 3000 m. System certifications: CE, IEC 62619, IEC 62040, UN38.3, VDE-2510.

Who it suits

Suitable for an integrator or a commercial customer who commissions, extends or repairs a Deye BOS-A system coupled to 50-100 kW inverters.

Terms explained

  • Master BMS: The main electronics that runs the whole battery group and reports a single state to the inverter, even though several modules sit behind it.
  • IP20: Minimal protection, only against being touched with a finger: the equipment must be installed indoors, in a dry space.
  • CAN 2.0: The language through which the battery and the inverter exchange data - how charged the battery is, what current it accepts, whether there are alarms.

Technical details

Specifications confirmed from the manufacturer's datasheet

Deye BOS-A HVB 750V/160A-EU, code BOS-A-PDU-2, is the control box of the high-voltage battery clusters from the BOS-A series. It contains no cells, but groups the master BMS, the power contactors, the fuses and the communication interface towards the inverter.

The unit is sized for a current of 160 A and manages between 7 and 21 BOS-A-Pack7.68 modules, each with 38,4 V and 200 Ah. The voltage range of the bank depends on the number of modules: 235,2 - 306,6 V for 7 modules, 436,8 - 569,4 V for 13 modules and 705,6 - 919,8 V for 21 modules. The resulting capacities range from 53,76 up to 161,28 kWh.

The main functions are real-time monitoring of voltage, current, temperature and state of charge, cell balancing and the protections against overvoltage, overcurrent, short circuit and temperatures outside the permitted range. Communication with the inverter is via CAN 2.0.

Mounting is of the rack type, in the cluster cabinet, with protection rating IP20. The operating temperature range is -20...55 degrees C, the permitted humidity 5 - 85% RH, and the maximum altitude 3000 m. The system certifications include CE, IEC 62619, IEC 62040, UN38.3 and VDE-2510.
