Description

This is the screw that actually connects the panel system to the roof of the house. Its tip cuts its own thread in the wood, so you do not have to drill a hole beforehand. Being of stainless steel, it stays clean and resistant even if it remains outdoors for decades, in rain and frost.

The 8 mm diameter and 100 mm length are dimensioned so that the screw passes through the sheet metal, batten or sealing layer and still leaves enough thread driven into the timber rafter - the part actually engaged in the wood is what holds the panels when the wind pulls. In sheet metal a pilot hole is drilled in accordance with the mounting recommendations, in wood it is screwed in directly. Where the screw penetrates the roof covering, it must be installed together with a washer with an EPDM seal, otherwise the hole becomes a source of water ingress. Tightening is done in a controlled way: the seal must be compressed evenly, without being crushed - too tight damages the seal, too loose leaves a path for water.

Self-tapping screw of stainless steel, nominal diameter 8 mm, length 100 mm, for fixing mini-rails, brackets and mounting hooks in the load-bearing structure of the roof. The stainless steel execution eliminates corrosion outdoors and avoids the accelerated galvanic corrosion between galvanised steel and aluminium profiles in a humid environment. The engagement length in wood is dimensioned so that the pull-out resistance covers the values from the load calculation; when penetrating the roof covering, mounting is mandatory with an EPDM sealing washer and a controlled tightening torque.

Who it suits

Suitable for installations on timber trusses or on sheet metal, on houses and industrial halls, wherever the screw remains exposed to the weather and in permanent contact with aluminium parts.

Terms explained

  • Self-tapping: The screw cuts its own thread in the material, so in wood it is screwed in directly, without a pilot hole.
  • Galvanic corrosion: When two different metals sit together in moisture, one degrades faster; stainless steel next to aluminium avoids this effect.
  • Rafter: The sloping timber beam in the roof structure; the screw must reach into it for the fixing to be secure.

Technical details

Generic product — standard specifications

Self-tapping screw of stainless steel, with a nominal diameter of 8 mm and a length of 100 mm, used for fixing mini-rails, brackets and mounting hooks in the load-bearing structure of the roof. The self-tapping tip allows screwing in without pre-threading in wood, while in sheet metal the pilot hole is made in accordance with the mounting recommendations.

The stainless steel execution is essential on the roof: it eliminates the risk of corrosion outdoors and avoids the accelerated galvanic corrosion that appears when a galvanised steel screw remains in permanent contact with aluminium profiles in a humid environment. The 100 mm length is dimensioned for passing through sheet metal, batten or sealing layer and for sufficient anchoring in the timber rafter - the practical rule is that the threaded part actually engaged in the wood should provide the pull-out resistance required by the load calculation.

When penetrating the roof covering, the screw must be installed together with a sealing washer with an EPDM seal and tightened in a controlled way: the seal must be compressed evenly, without being crushed. Over-tightening damages the seal and compromises tightness, while under-tightening leaves a path for water ingress.
