Description

Metal lengthens when it heats up and shortens when it cools down. The rails of this system are deliberately left to slide slightly in the clamps, so that they do not deform. BasicLock 22 is the part that holds them in place at a single point, like a fixed reference, so that the movement is controlled and does not all accumulate at one end.

On a sheet metal roof, the annual thermal amplitude can exceed 60-70 K, and a long rail changes its length appreciably. Without a fixed point, the movement adds up at one end of the row and can push the modules or place uncontrolled stress on the fastenings. With BasicLock 22 installed, the expansion is distributed symmetrically towards the two free ends of the run, and the module field stays where it was positioned at installation. The set includes the necessary screws and nuts, so it is installed without accessories bought separately.

BasicLock 22 set, article code 1003558, with components made of aluminium, stainless steel and polyamide (PA), intended for the K2 BasicRail 22 rail. Its function is that of a fixed point: it mechanically locks the rail in one position along the run, the rest of the length remaining free to work longitudinally in the BasicClip clamps. The position is determined from the configuration of the module field and from the length of the rail run, according to the K2 installation instructions for the BasicRail system.

Who it suits

Required in installations with long rows of panels on trapezoidal sheet, where the rails are spliced and the run exceeds the length of a single bar.

Terms explained

  • Fixed point: The single place where the rail is locked; from there the expansion movement is distributed in both directions.
  • Floating installation: The rail is not clamped rigidly everywhere, but left to slide in a controlled way in the fastening clamps.
  • Thermal amplitude (K): The difference between the minimum and the maximum temperature the material reaches; a difference of 1 K is equal to 1 degree Celsius.

Technical details

Specifications confirmed from the manufacturer's datasheet

The K2 BasicLock 22 set, article code 1003558, is the safety element that fixes the K2 BasicRail 22 rail with respect to thermal expansion. The materials of the components are aluminium, stainless steel and polyamide (PA), and the set includes the screws and nuts needed for installation.

The K2 BasicRail system is designed to work "floating", with controlled linear thermal expansion: the rail can move longitudinally in the BasicClip clamps as the temperature varies. On a sheet metal roof, the annual thermal amplitude can exceed 60-70 K, and a long rail changes its length appreciably. If the movement is not directed, it accumulates at one end and can move the modules or place uncontrolled stress on the fixing points.

BasicLock 22 solves this by defining a fixed point along the rail run: in that place the rail is mechanically locked, and the expansion is distributed symmetrically towards the two free ends. In practice, the installer decides where the rail "stays" and where it is allowed to work. The component is installed according to the K2 instructions for the BasicRail system, in the position resulting from the configuration of the module field and from the length of the rail run.
