Description

It is the ordinary six-sided nut, but with a wide brim at its base, called a flange. The flange spreads the pressure over a larger surface, just as a wide sole does not sink into snow as much as a thin heel. The practical result is twofold: no separate washer has to be fitted, and the tightening stays firm over time.

It is used everywhere in the mounting structure: on the clamps that hold the panels, on the joints between profiles and connectors and for fastening roof brackets to the rail. Being made of A2 stainless steel, it does not rust and does not leave stains on the aluminium profiles or on the roof, because materials chosen this way do not corrode each other when they stay in contact for years. One piece weighs 0,0073 kg, and factory delivery is in packs of 100 pieces. The larger bearing surface presses less into the soft aluminium of the rail and limits self-loosening under wind vibration and under the daily expansion and contraction caused by the sun.

Hexagon flange nut according to DIN 6923, metric thread M8, A2 stainless steel, manufacturer code M540, EAN 4050128164128, mass 0,0073 kg/piece, packaging 100 pieces/pack. Compared with the DIN 934 version without a flange, the extended bearing surface eliminates the separate flat washer, reduces indentation into the aluminium profiles and limits self-loosening under vibration and thermal cycles. Electrochemical compatibility with the aluminium profiles and with the stainless steel bolts of photovoltaic systems, with no risk of galvanic corrosion. The manufacturer explicitly specifies that the part is a component of CORAB support structures and is not intended for stand-alone use in other construction applications.

Who it suits

Suitable for any photovoltaic installation on a CORAB structure where M8 joints are used and a secure tightening is wanted, without extra washers to handle on the roof.

Terms explained

  • Flange: The wide rim at the base of the nut, which presses on a larger surface and replaces the washer.
  • A2 stainless steel: A type of stainless steel commonly used outdoors, which does not rust and does not stain the surrounding metals.
  • Galvanic corrosion: The damage that occurs when two different metals are in contact and moisture makes one attack the other.

Technical details

Specifications confirmed from the manufacturer's datasheet

Hexagon nut with flange according to DIN 6923, metric thread M8, made of A2 stainless steel. The integrated flange increases the bearing surface and distributes the tightening pressure over a larger area than a plain hexagon nut, which eliminates the need for a separate flat washer and shortens the installation time.

Compared with the DIN 934 version without a flange, the extended surface reduces the risk of indentation into the soft material of the aluminium profiles and limits self-loosening under vibration and under the daily thermal cycles — an aspect relevant for structures permanently exposed to wind and to expansion/contraction.

The A2 stainless steel material ensures electrochemical compatibility with the aluminium profiles and with the stainless steel bolts used in photovoltaic systems, avoiding galvanic corrosion and rust stains on the structure and on the roof. The mass is 0,0073 kg per piece, and factory delivery is in packs of 100 pieces.

The manufacturer explicitly specifies that the part is a component of CORAB support structures and is not intended for stand-alone use in other construction applications.
