Description

TS4-A-O is a small box that clips onto the panel frame and is inserted into the direct current cable through MC4 connectors (the standard plugs used on photovoltaic panels). Its role is to get out of each panel as much as it can give, even if the neighbouring panel is shaded by a chimney, an antenna or a tree - without such a device, a single shaded module drags down the whole string. In addition, it reports how that panel is working and can deactivate it individually, on command or when communication is lost. Installation takes about 10 seconds per module and does not require a separate earthing conductor.

One unit serves a single panel, of up to 700 W, so you buy one for each module you want to treat. The practical advantage is that you are not obliged to equip the whole roof: you put optimisers only on the panels that are shaded, dirtier or differently oriented, the rest of the string remaining on classic wiring, which keeps the cost low and does not force you to change the inverter. This variant has a 1.2 m output cable with MC4/EVO2 connectors, useful when the distance between modules is larger or when the panel junction box is not easily accessible. The IP68 enclosure withstands immersion up to 1.5 m and temperatures from -40 to +70 °C, so it sits on the roof without maintenance, and the warranty is 25 years; in order to see the data and use the rapid shutdown you additionally need a TAP and a Cloud Connect Advanced.

Add-on module for a single module of up to 700 W, with maximum power point tracking at panel level (Predictive IV technology). Working voltage range 16-80 V, maximum input voltage 80 V, maximum current 15 A, maximum system voltage 1000 V (IEC) / 1500 V (UL), MC4/EVO2 connectors with a 1.2 m cable. Wireless communication towards TAP + CCA, both mandatory for panel-level monitoring and for the rapid shutdown function. Dimensions 138.4 x 139.7 x 22.9 mm, mass 520 g, IP68, operating temperature -40 ... +70 °C, maximum altitude 2000 m; compliant with the NEC 2014 / 2017 / 2020 requirements on rapid shutdown, 25-year warranty.

Who it suits

Suitable for roofs with partial shading (chimney, antenna, neighbouring tree) or with panels on different slopes or orientations, where you want to recover the production without changing the existing inverter.

Terms explained

  • Optimiser: A device mounted on each panel, which makes it work independently, so that a weak or shaded module does not drag down the production of the whole string.
  • Maximum power point: The combination of voltage and current at which the panel gives the most; the device looks for it permanently, as the light and the temperature change.
  • IP68: Sealing code: dust does not enter at all, and the enclosure withstands even immersion in water - here up to 1.5 m depth.

Technical details

Specifications confirmed from the manufacturer's datasheet

TS4-A-O is an add-on module that clips onto the photovoltaic panel frame and is inserted into the direct current circuit through MC4 connectors, the installation taking about 10 seconds per module and requiring no separate earthing conductor. It combines three functions in a single unit: optimisation (maximum power point tracking per module, with the Predictive IV technology), panel-level monitoring and rapid shutdown - the individual deactivation of the modules on command or on loss of communication.

Electrical data: it supports modules of up to 700 W, working voltage range 16-80 V, maximum input voltage 80 V, maximum current 15 A, maximum system voltage 1000 V (IEC) / 1500 V (UL). One TS4-A-O serves a single module. The variant delivered has a 1.2 m output cable with MC4/EVO2 connectors, suitable for rows with a larger distance between modules or for mounting on structures where the junction box is not immediately accessible.

Unlike architectures that impose an optimiser on every panel, TS4-A-O allows selective installation: only the modules affected by shading, soiling or with a different orientation are equipped, the rest of the string remaining on classic wiring. This reduces the cost per system and preserves flexibility in design, without imposing a dedicated inverter.

Communication is wireless, towards a Tigo Access Point (TAP) connected to a Cloud Connect Advanced (CCA); both are necessary for panel-level monitoring and for the rapid shutdown function. Construction: IP68 enclosure (resistant to immersion up to 1.5 m), dimensions 138.4 x 139.7 x 22.9 mm, mass 520 g, operating temperature -40 ... +70 °C, maximum altitude of use 2000 m. Compliant with the NEC 2014 / 2017 / 2020 requirements on rapid shutdown. 25-year warranty.
