Huawei SmartDongle 4G network adapter
The module that gives a Huawei inverter internet through a SIM card, where the fixed network does not reach. It plugs into the USB port, serves up to 10 inverters, IP65.
Every panel works independently, so a shaded module no longer drags down the whole string: 450 W optimiser, maximum efficiency 99.5%, IP68 enclosure, 25-year warranty.
A string of panels behaves like a chain: if a single module is shaded, dirty or aged, it drags down the production of the whole string. The optimiser is a small box mounted on the frame of each panel, between the module and the rest of the string, which breaks this link - each panel works on its own, at its own maximum. In addition, it sends the inverter the information about how much each panel produces and takes part in quickly shutting down the voltage on the roof when the system is switched off.
It is sized for modules of up to 450 W rated input power. Its own losses are small: maximum efficiency 99.5% and weighted efficiency 99.0%, that is under 1% of the energy passing through it, far less than the energy recovered from panels that would otherwise be limited by their neighbours. The IP68 enclosure and operation between -40 and +85 °C, at 0-100% humidity, make it suitable for permanent mounting on the roof, in any season. It needs no separate data cable, because it talks to the inverter over the direct current cable itself, and the production of each panel is seen in the FusionSolar app, so that a module which no longer performs is identified immediately. The product warranty is 25 years.
Rated input power 450 W, maximum input voltage 80 V, MPPT voltage range 10-80 V, maximum short-circuit current at the input 14.5 A; on the output, maximum voltage 80 V and maximum current 15 A. MBUS communication on the DC cable, physical mapping of the modules by scanning QR codes, real-time monitoring in FusionSolar; when the inverter is switched off or on an emergency command, the string voltage drops to a safe level according to VDE-AR-E 2100-712:2018-12, with location of the electric arc on the DC route. IP68 enclosure, operation -40...+85 °C, relative humidity 0-100%, compliant with IEC 62109-1 (safety class II) and RoHS. Compatible with most modules on the market, including those with 210 mm cells, it allows long strings, with a reduced number of strings and with modules oriented on several roof planes.
Suitable for a house with a Huawei SUN2000 inverter and panels of up to 450 W, especially if the roof has shading from a chimney, an antenna or neighbours, or modules on several orientations.

Specifications confirmed from the manufacturer's datasheet
SUN2000-450W-P2 is a Huawei Smart PV Optimizer (smart module controller) that is mounted on the frame of each panel, between the module and the DC string. It performs maximum power point tracking individually, per module, so that partial shading, soiling, degradation or a different orientation of one panel no longer limits the production of the whole string - each module works independently of the others.
Electrical data: rated input power 450 W, maximum input voltage 80 V, MPPT voltage range 10-80 V, maximum short-circuit current 14.5 A. On the output, the maximum voltage is 80 V, and the maximum current 15 A. The maximum efficiency is 99.5%, and the weighted efficiency 99.0%, so the losses introduced by the optimiser are negligible compared with the energy gain recovered from non-uniformities.
Communication with the inverter is through the MBUS protocol, directly on the direct current power cable, without additional data wiring. At installation, the physical mapping of the modules is done by scanning QR codes, and the status of each panel is followed in real time in the FusionSolar app, which allows the faulty module to be identified quickly. The optimiser is part of the Huawei safety chain: when the inverter is switched off or on an emergency command, the string voltage drops to a safe level, according to VDE-AR-E 2100-712:2018-12, and the system locates the electric arc on the DC route.
In construction it is made in an IP68 enclosure, with operation between -40 and +85 °C at 0-100% relative humidity, compliant with IEC 62109-1 (safety class II) and RoHS. It is compatible with most modules on the market, including those with 210 mm cells, and allows the design of long strings, with a reduced number of strings and with modules oriented on several planes of the roof. The warranty is 25 years.
