Description

It is the meter installed at the building entry which tells the Growatt inverter, at every moment, how much the three phases are consuming and whether energy is leaving towards or coming from the grid. On the basis of this information the inverter decides to reduce production, to charge the battery or to let the surplus go into the grid. It comes with the connection cable included, so you do not have to buy it separately.

It is connected directly into the circuit on a three-phase 230/400 V grid, for currents of up to 80 A, without external measuring accessories, and it has its own screen for checking on the spot. In the package you find a 15 m data cable, which means the inverter can be at a reasonable distance from the connection board, without improvisation. It takes little room, 94.5 x 72 x 65 mm, has an IP51 protection rating and consumes under 1.5 W, that is practically nothing on the bill. It works between -25 °C and +55 °C, at humidity below 75%, so it can also sit in a switchboard in an unheated space. If the installation has currents above 80 A, the version with current transformers, TPM-CT, is used instead.

3P4W grid at 230/400 V a.c., 50/60 Hz, direct connection, rated current 5 A with a measuring range of 5-80 A. Class 1 accuracy: ±0.5% on voltage and current, ±1% on power, ±0.2% on frequency. RS485 Modbus RTU communication at 9600 bps, default address 004 for the three-phase version, 15 m RS485 cable included. Own consumption under 1.5 W / 6 VA, footprint 94.5 x 72 x 65 mm, IP51 protection rating, DIN rail mounting.

Who it suits

Suited to a house or a company with a three-phase connection and a current of up to 80 A per phase, which has a Growatt photovoltaic installation and must limit the delivery into the grid or prioritise its own consumption and battery charging.

Terms explained

  • Connection point: The place where your installation connects to the supplier's grid; there is where what you give and what you take is measured, so there is where the meter is installed.
  • Hybrid inverter: An inverter that works both with the panels and with a battery, being able to choose between consuming, storing or delivering the energy.
  • Accuracy class 1: The level of measurement accuracy, sufficient for controlling the installation and for tracking consumption.

Technical details

Specifications confirmed from the manufacturer's datasheet

Growatt TPM-C is the three-phase smart meter intended for Growatt inverters, for 3P4W grids at 230/400 V a.c., 50/60 Hz. It is mounted on a DIN rail and connected directly into the circuit, the rated current being 5 A with a measuring range of 5–80 A, without external current transformers. The accuracy is class 1: ±0.5% on voltage and current, ±1% on power and ±0.2% on frequency.

Communication towards the inverter is on RS485 with Modbus RTU protocol at 9600 bps, the default address being 004 for the three-phase version; a 15 m RS485 cable is included in the package. The inverter reads the power at the connection point in real time and applies export limitation, self-consumption prioritisation or the battery charging strategies in hybrid systems.

The enclosure has dimensions of 94.5 x 72 x 65 mm and an IP51 protection rating, with an LCD display for local reading of the quantities. The own consumption is under 1.5 W / 6 VA, and the operating range is -25 °C ... +55 °C, at humidity below 75% RH. For installations with currents above 80 A the version with current transformers (TPM-CT) is used.
