Description

It is the meter that is installed in the electrical switchboard and counts the energy on all three phases, not just on one. You wire it directly into the circuit, without extra measuring parts clamped onto the cables, and on the display you see at any moment how much is being consumed and how much has been consumed so far. It can send these values further, over a data wire, to the inverter or to a consumption monitoring system. In practice, it is the eye of the installation: without it, the inverter does not know what the rest of the house is doing.

It connects directly up to 100 A per phase, which covers most domestic and small commercial connections and eliminates the cost and the installation mistakes of external current transformers. The base current is 10 A, measurement is valid from 0.5 A, and recording starts from only 0.4% of the base current, so even small consumptions are visible. It takes up 4 modules in the switchboard (72 x 100 mm) and powers itself from the voltage inputs, without a separate supply. Besides kWh, it shows voltages, currents, powers, power factor, frequency, the maximum demand reached and the harmonic distortion, useful when you want to see whether your grid is "dirty" because of electronic loads. It works between -25 °C and +55 °C, at 0-90% humidity non-condensing, so it can also sit in a switchboard in an unheated space.

It accepts 3P4W, 3P3W and 1P2W networks, at 100-289 V AC phase-neutral or 173-500 V AC phase-phase; Ib 10 A, Imax 100 A, Imin 0.5 A, starting current 0.4% of Ib. Class 1 accuracy on active energy according to IEC 62053-21 (class B according to EN 50470-3 on the MID B+D variants) and class 2 on reactive energy according to IEC 62053-23; ±0.5% on voltage and current, ±1% on active, reactive and apparent power, typical temperature coefficient 0.018%/°C on active energy, response time about 1 s, harmonic measurement up to the 31st order. RS485 Modbus RTU port, 1200-38400 bps, addresses 1-247, two pulse outputs. Size 4 DIN modules according to DIN 43880, maximum altitude 2000 m.

Who it suits

Suitable for a house, a guesthouse or a small commercial space with a three-phase connection and a current of up to 100 A per phase, where you want a complete picture of the consumption or you need the inverter to read in real time what is happening in the main switchboard.

Terms explained

  • Direct connection (without CT): The cables pass right through the meter, so you no longer need separate measuring rings mounted on the conductors - simpler installation and no orientation mistakes.
  • Zero export: A setting through which the photovoltaic installation produces only as much as is consumed in the building and sends nothing into the grid; the meter is the one that tells the inverter when to reduce.
  • Harmonic distortion: A measure of how deformed the shape of the current is compared with the ideal; high values indicate equipment that additionally loads the installation.

Technical details

Specifications confirmed from the manufacturer's datasheet

Eastron SDM630-Modbus V2 is a multifunction three-phase meter for DIN rail, with a width of 4 modules (72 x 100 mm according to DIN 43880). It connects directly into the circuit up to 100 A, which eliminates the cost and the installation errors associated with external current transformers. It accepts 3P4W, 3P3W and 1P2W networks, with voltages of 100–289 V AC phase-neutral or 173–500 V AC phase-phase; the base current is Ib 10 A, Imax 100 A, the minimum current 0.5 A, and the starting current 0.4% of Ib.

The active energy accuracy is class 1 according to IEC 62053-21 (class B according to EN 50470-3 on the MID B+D variants), and the reactive energy accuracy class 2 according to IEC 62053-23. The errors on the instantaneous quantities are ±0.5% on voltage and current and ±1% on active, reactive and apparent power, with a typical temperature coefficient of 0.018%/°C on active energy and a response time of about 1 second. Besides energy, the meter shows voltages, currents, powers, power factor, frequency, maximum demand and harmonic distortion up to the 31st harmonic.

The RS485 port works in Modbus RTU with speeds from 1200 to 38400 bps and addresses 1–247, allowing integration into photovoltaic inverters, export limitation controllers, EMS and SCADA systems. The two pulse outputs can be used for imported and exported energy. The meter is self-powered from the voltage inputs, does not require an auxiliary supply and works between -25 °C and +55 °C, at 0–90% humidity non-condensing and altitudes of up to 2000 m.
