Description

In an ordinary installation, the panels are connected in a string, and if one is shaded, dirty or weaker, it drags down the whole group, as in a hose in which a single pinch reduces the flow for everyone. The SolarEdge system solves this by moving the intelligence onto each panel, into a small device called an optimiser; the inverter only handles the conversion of the current and the connection to the grid. The practical result is that partial shading or different orientations no longer affect the whole installation, and in the app you see how much each individual panel produces. Important to know: this inverter works only together with SolarEdge optimisers, which are ordered separately.

It delivers 6000 W on a three-phase grid and accepts up to 8100 W of panels, that is an oversizing of about 35% compared with the output power, useful for better production in weak hours and in winter, roughly, depending on the location. It suits a residential installation of 5-8 kWp, especially on roofs with chimneys, dormers, trees or multiple slopes, where a classic inverter would lose visibly. The efficiency of 98% and the consumption below 2,5 W at night mean small losses, and the noise below 40 dBA makes it suitable next to living spaces. At 16,4 kg and 540 x 315 x 191 mm it can be installed by a single electrician, indoors or outdoors, the enclosure being IP65, and operation is accepted between -20 and +60 degrees C. It has no screen: everything is done from the phone, through the SetApp application. The standard warranty is 12 years, with the option of extension to 20 or 25 years.

AC: 6000 W / 6000 VA, three-phase 400/230 V or 380/220 V, 50/60 Hz ±5 Hz, range 184-264,5 Vac per phase, maximum continuous current 10 A per phase. DC: maximum module power 8100 W at STC, maximum voltage 900 Vdc, nominal 750 Vdc, maximum current 10 Adc, two pairs of MC4 connectors, integrated DC switch; maximum power point tracking is done in the optimiser, not in the inverter. Maximum efficiency 98%, European weighted 97,3%, night-time consumption below 2,5 W, noise below 40 dBA. IP65, 540 x 315 x 191 mm, 16,4 kg, -20...+60 °C. Standard communication RS485 and Ethernet; optional Wi-Fi / ZigBee with the SE-ANT-ZBWIFI03 antenna or the Home Network ENET-HBNP-01 module; configuration exclusively through the SetApp application. Compatible with SolarEdge meters for export limitation and self-consumption measurement. Standards: IEC 62103, IEC 62109, VDE 0126-1-1, VDE-AR-N 4105, CE, RoHS.

Who it suits

Suitable for a house with a three-phase connection and 5-8 kWp of panels, especially on roofs with partial shading, several slopes or for anyone who wants to see the status of each panel in the app.

Terms explained

  • Power optimiser: A small device mounted behind each panel, which makes it work independently of its neighbours and sends the inverter data about its production; without these optimisers, the SolarEdge inverter does not work.
  • Module-level monitoring: The possibility of seeing in the app the production of each panel separately, which immediately shows whether one is shaded, dirty or faulty.
  • Grid export limitation: The adjustment of the power sent into the grid so as not to exceed what the connection approval allows; it is done with a meter installed in the panel board, which tells the inverter how much it is allowed to deliver.

Technical details

Specifications confirmed from the manufacturer's datasheet

SolarEdge SE6K-RW0TEBEN4 is a grid-connected three-phase photovoltaic inverter, with a rated power of 6000 W, intended for the SolarEdge architecture with DC power optimisers. Unlike a classic string inverter, maximum power point tracking is not done in the inverter, but in the optimiser mounted on each module; the inverter works at a fixed string DC voltage, nominally 750 V, and deals strictly with the DC-AC conversion and the synchronisation with the grid. The practical result is that partial shading, soiling or different module orientations no longer drag down the whole string, and monitoring is done at module level.

On the alternating current side, the inverter delivers 6000 W / 6000 VA on a three-phase grid of 400/230 V (respectively 380/220 V), at 50/60 Hz, with a maximum continuous current of 10 A per phase and a working voltage range of 184-264,5 Vac per phase. On the direct current side it accepts a maximum module power of 8100 W at STC, which allows oversizing of the photovoltaic generator by up to 35% compared with the AC power, with a maximum input voltage of 900 Vdc and a maximum input current of 10 Adc. The maximum efficiency is 98%, the European weighted efficiency 97,3%, and the night-time consumption below 2,5 W.

In terms of construction, the enclosure has an IP65 protection rating and can be mounted both outdoors and indoors, at temperatures from -20 up to +60 degrees Celsius, with a noise level below 40 dBA. The dimensions are 540 x 315 x 191 mm, and the weight 16,4 kg, which allows installation by a single electrician. The inverter has an integrated DC switch and two pairs of MC4 connectors for the string inputs. It has no display: commissioning, setting the grid code and updates are done from the phone through the SolarEdge SetApp application, via a direct Wi-Fi connection to the inverter.

Standard communication includes RS485 and Ethernet for connection to the SolarEdge monitoring platform, where the production and the status of each individual module are displayed. The wireless connection (Wi-Fi / ZigBee) is made optionally, with the SE-ANT-ZBWIFI03 antenna or the Home Network ENET-HBNP-01 module. The inverter works exclusively with SolarEdge optimisers (one per module or per pair of modules, depending on the model) and is compatible with SolarEdge meters for grid export limitation and self-consumption measurement. The standard warranty is 12 years, with the option of extension to 20 or 25 years.
