Huawei SUN2000-5KTL-M1 three-phase hybrid inverter, 5kW

The inverter converts the direct current of the panels into the alternating current used in the house and decides, moment by moment, whether the energy goes to the loads, into the battery or into the grid. This model is three-phase, so it suits installations with three phases, and it is a hybrid, that is it can work directly with a battery. Artificial-intelligence-assisted arc fault detection shuts the system down if a spark appears in a loose contact on the direct current side.

The 5.000 W rated power is enough for a house that also has large loads — heat pump, electric water heater or car charger — and on the panel side it accepts up to 7.500 Wp, that is about 1,5 times the output power. The two MPPTs allow two strings with different orientations, tracked separately, so that a group shaded in the morning does not drag down the sunlit group. A LUNA2000 battery of 5-30 kWh connects directly: charging with up to 10.000 W, discharging with up to 5.500 W, and with the Backup Box-B1 3.300 VA of essential loads stay supplied during an outage. The device weighs 17 kg, 525 x 470 x 146,5 mm, has an IP65 enclosure and fanless cooling, so it can be mounted outdoors, makes no noise and consumes less than 5,5 W at night.

Terms explained

• PID recovery: A function that corrects at night an electrical degradation that appears over time in the panels, helping them keep their power.
• AFCI: The protection that detects the spark from a loose contact on the direct current cables and shuts the installation down before a fire occurs.

SUN2000-5KTL-M1 is a three-phase inverter from Huawei's Smart Energy Controller series (3-10 kW). It delivers 5.000 W rated active power and 5.500 VA maximum apparent power on a 220/380 V or 230/400 V grid (3W/N+PE), 50/60 Hz, with 8,5 A maximum output current, THD below 3% and adjustable power factor between 0,8 capacitive and 0,8 inductive. The maximum efficiency is 98,4%, and the European weighted efficiency 97,5%.
