Description

The inverter is the gateway between the roof and the house's electrical installation: it takes the direct current from the panels, converts it into alternating current and sends it where it is needed. Being three-phase, it connects to three-phase supplies, and being hybrid it can directly couple a battery, so that you use in the evening the energy produced at midday. The artificial-intelligence assisted arc fault monitoring shuts down the installation if a spark appears in a loosened contact, as protection against fire.

With 4,000 W of rated power it covers the simultaneous consumption of an average home and accepts up to 6,000 Wp of panels, that is approximately 1.5 times the output power — useful when the roof has two slopes or partial shading, because the two MPPTs work separately. Connected to a LUNA2000 battery of 5-30 kWh, it charges it with up to 10,000 W and discharges it with up to 4,400 W; with the Backup Box-B1 it maintains 3,300 VA for the essential loads when the grid goes down. The device weighs 17 kg and measures 525 x 470 x 146.5 mm, has an IP65 enclosure and fanless cooling, so it can be installed outdoors, works silently and consumes under 5.5 W at night. Maintenance amounts to visual checks, and the output is monitored in FusionSolar.

4,000 W rated active power and 4,400 VA apparent on a 220/380 V or 230/400 V grid (3W/N+PE), 50/60 Hz, 6.8 A maximum output current, THD under 3%, power factor adjustable 0.8 capacitive...0.8 inductive, maximum efficiency 98.3% / European 97.1%. Who it suits

Suitable for a three-phase house with a 4-6 kWp system, with a roof on two orientations, that wants self-consumption and an energy reserve during power cuts.

Terms explained

  • Apparent power (VA): The maximum power the inverter can deliver briefly, including the component required by motors or pumps; here, 4,400 VA against 4,000 W of active power.
  • Backup Box-B1: The box that separates the house from the grid during a power cut, so that the inverter and the battery keep supplying the essential loads.
  • MPPT: The circuit that looks for the maximum power point of a string of panels; two MPPTs allow two differently oriented groups, tracked independently.

Technical details

Specifications confirmed from the manufacturer's datasheet

The SUN2000-4KTL-M1 is a three-phase inverter from Huawei's Smart Energy Controller series (3-10 kW). It delivers 4,000 W of rated active power and 4,400 VA of maximum apparent power on a 220/380 V or 230/400 V grid (3W/N+PE), 50/60 Hz, with 6.8 A maximum output current, THD under 3% and a power factor adjustable between 0.8 capacitive and 0.8 inductive. The maximum efficiency is 98.3%, and the weighted European efficiency 97.1%.

The DC side has 2 MPPT trackers with one string input each, maximum voltage 1,100 V, operating range 140-980 V, start-up at 200 V and nominal voltage 600 V; the maximum current is 11 A/MPPT (15 A short circuit), at a maximum recommended PV power of 6,000 Wp (up to 20,000 Wp with SUN2000-450W-P optimisers).

The DC battery interface accepts Huawei LUNA2000 / Smart String ESS 5-30 kWh, 600-980 V, 16.7 A, with 10,000 W on charging and 4,400 W on discharging; together with the Backup Box-B1 it provides 3,300 VA in backup mode. Protections: AFCI, insulation and residual current monitoring, type II SPD on DC and AC, anti-islanding, PID recovery.
