Description

A hybrid inverter is the part that links together the panels, the battery, the house and the electricity grid. It converts the direct current produced by the panels into the alternating current in the sockets and decides, moment by moment, whether the energy goes to the loads of the house, to the battery or to the grid. This model is three-phase, that is it connects to the three-phase supply used by houses with large loads, and works with high-voltage batteries, that is batteries made of many modules connected in a chain, so that a low current flows through the cables and less energy is lost as heat.

The 12 kW of continuous power support in parallel the heat pump, the boiler, the hob and the rest of the house, and for 10 seconds the inverter can rise to 1.5 times this value, the margin needed when starting a motor or a pump while the house runs only on the battery. Up to 19.2 kW of panels can be mounted on the roof, and the maximum voltage permitted on the panel side is 1000 V. The battery is charged and discharged with at most 30 A in each direction; because the bank works between 160 and 700 V, the same 30 A mean the more power the higher the battery voltage. The IP65 enclosure resists dust and water jets, so the device can also sit on an exterior wall; it measures 408 x 638 x 237 mm, weighs 30.5 kg (it is installed by two people) and stays below 55 dB(A), roughly the noise of an ordinary conversation. If a diesel generator already exists, the inverter can charge the battery from it, which helps in areas with a weak grid.

Rated active power 12000 W, maximum apparent power 13200 VA, output 220/380 V or 230/400 V (0.85-1.1 Un), 50 Hz (45-55) or 60 Hz (55-65), maximum AC current 20 A / 19.2 A, off-grid peak 1.5 x Pn for 10 s. PV input: maximum DC voltage 1000 V, access power 24 kW, maximum PV power 19.2 kW, two MPPT trackers with a 150-850 V range and a 2+1 string configuration. High-voltage lithium-ion battery 160-700 V, 30 A on charge and 30 A on discharge. Maximum efficiency 97.6%, European efficiency 97.0%, IP65, 30.5 kg, operating temperature -40...+60 degrees C; RS485, RS232 and CAN communication, paralleling up to a maximum of 10 units, with storage of the energy coming from a diesel generator.

Who it suits

Suitable for a large house with a three-phase supply or a small office, with a photovoltaic generator of up to 19.2 kWp and a high-voltage battery, where both self-consumption and backup supply when the grid fails are wanted.

Terms explained

  • Hybrid inverter: The device that converts the current from the panels into house current and, in addition, knows how to charge and discharge a battery and to keep the house supplied when the grid goes down.
  • MPPT: A circuit that continuously searches for the point at which the panels give the most energy; two such circuits mean you can have two groups of panels on different orientations, each working at its own maximum.
  • IP65: A code showing how well the enclosure is sealed: no dust gets in at all and it resists water jets, so the device can also be mounted outdoors, sheltered from direct sun.

Technical details

Specifications confirmed from the manufacturer's datasheet

Deye SUN-12K-SG01HP3-EU-AM2 is a three-phase hybrid inverter from the SG01HP3 family, designed for high-voltage lithium-ion batteries (160-700 V). The maximum battery charge and discharge current is 30 A in each direction; working at high voltage reduces the losses on the DC cables and the heat release compared with low-voltage solutions.

The photovoltaic side accepts a PV access power of up to 24 kW and a maximum PV power of 19.2 kW, at a maximum DC voltage of 1000 V. Two MPPT trackers are available with a 150-850 V range and a 2+1 string configuration. The AC output is 12000 W of rated active power and 13200 VA of maximum apparent power, at 220/380 V or 230/400 V (0.85-1.1 Un), 50 Hz (45-55) or 60 Hz (55-65), with a maximum output current of 20 A / 19.2 A. In off-grid operation it withstands a peak of 1.5 times the rated power for 10 seconds.

The maximum efficiency is 97.6%, and the European efficiency 97.0%. The enclosure has IP65 protection, dimensions of 408 x 638 x 237 mm (without connectors and brackets), a mass of 30.5 kg and a noise level below 55 dB(A). The thermal operating range is -40...+60 degrees C.

Communication is via RS485, RS232 and CAN. The inverter can be paralleled in a maximum of 10 units and accepts the storage of energy coming from a diesel generator, which makes it suitable for sites with a weak grid or with an existing backup supply.
