Description

A hybrid inverter can store energy in the battery, but in order to supply the house when the grid goes down it needs a switch to separate it quickly from the grid. That is exactly what this box does: it contains the relays and the breaker that separate the important circuits in the distribution board from the rest of the installation and automatically transfer them onto the inverter and battery at the moment of the outage. When the power returns, the switching back also happens by itself, without intervention.

It is chosen according to the inverter. The single-phase version SYN 50-XH-10, for the MIN XH series, works at 230 V and 50/60 Hz and supports a continuous current of 50 A, that is enough for the essential circuits of a home; it is 365 x 450 x 123 mm and 10.8 kg, so it takes up the space of an ordinary distribution board on the wall. The three-phase version SYN 100-XH-30, for the MID XH series, carries up to 40 kW in backup mode, accepts loads distributed 100% unbalanced across the phases (you can have a much higher consumption on one phase than on the others, without problems) and switches between grid and island mode in 0.5 seconds. Both have an IP65 enclosure, cool themselves without a fan, and operate from -40 up to +60 degrees C, so they can also sit in an unheated space.

Automatic transfer box for the EPS function, with integrated breaker. SYN 50-XH-10: 230 V, 50/60 Hz, 50 A maximum continuous current, IP65, natural convection, 365 x 450 x 123 mm, 10.8 kg, -40...+60 degrees C, for Growatt MIN XH series inverters. SYN 100-XH-30: up to 40 kW three-phase backup, 100% unbalanced output across phases, on-grid/off-grid switching time 0.5 s, IP65, for the MID XH series. The commercial name in the list does not contain the exact model code, so the choice between SYN 50-XH-10 and SYN 100-XH-30 is made strictly according to the inverter served; the parameters above are the catalogue ones of the two versions.

Who it suits

Suitable for anyone who already has a Growatt MIN XH or MID XH hybrid inverter with a battery and wants the fridge, the boiler, the lighting or, in the three-phase version, the whole building to stay supplied during an outage.

Terms explained

  • EPS / backup: The mode in which the installation disconnects from the grid and supplies the house by itself from the battery and the panels, just like a generator does, but automatically and without noise.
  • Priority loads: The circuits you choose to stay supplied during an outage, usually the fridge, the heating boiler, the internet and a few sockets and lighting fixtures; they are wired separately, through this box.
  • 100% unbalanced output: The possibility for the three phases to be loaded very differently, for example almost all the consumption on a single one, without the system stopping.

Recommended applications

  • Adding the backup function to a Growatt MIN XH or MID XH hybrid inverter
  • Separating the priority load circuit from the main distribution board
  • Backup supply for homes in areas with frequent interruptions
  • Three-phase systems with unbalanced loads across phases (SYN 100-XH-30)

Growatt Backup Box is the automatic switching accessory that adds the backup power supply function (EPS/backup) to Growatt hybrid inverters with a battery. The box contains the transfer relays and the integrated breaker that separate the priority load circuit from the rest of the installation and switch its supply from the grid to the inverter and battery at the moment the grid goes down.

Growatt offers two actual versions, depending on the inverter. The single-phase version SYN 50-XH-10, for the MIN XH series inverters, works at 230 V nominal, 50/60 Hz, with a maximum continuous current of 50 A. It has an IP65 enclosure, natural convection cooling, dimensions of 365 x 450 x 123 mm and a weight of 10.8 kg, and the operating range is -40...+60 degrees C.

The three-phase version SYN 100-XH-30, for the MID XH series inverters, supports a backup power of up to 40 kW, with a three-phase output 100% unbalanced across the phases and switching between on-grid and off-grid mode in 0.5 seconds. It includes an integrated breaker for simplified installation and also has IP65 protection.

The name in the list does not contain the exact model code, so the correct choice (SYN 50-XH-10 or SYN 100-XH-30) is made according to the Growatt inverter it serves; the parameters above are the catalogue ones of the two versions.
