Description

The inverter is the brain of a solar installation with a battery: it takes the current produced by the panels, turns it into the ordinary current in the sockets and decides, moment by moment, whether the energy goes to the house, to the battery or to the grid. This model is hybrid, that is it works at the same time with the panels, with the battery and with the grid, and when the power fails it can supply the home by itself. It is three-phase, so it suits houses connected on three phases, with larger loads.

The 8.000 W of continuous power cover simultaneously the usual loads of a home, and for hard starts (pump, compressor, power tools) it delivers double the power for 10 seconds, that is 16.000 W. You can mount panels of up to 12.800 W, that is over 1,5 times the power of the inverter, which helps in the morning, in the evening and on cloudy days, when the sun is weak. Towards the battery it sends up to 190 A at 48 V, that is roughly around 9 kW of charging, so the battery fills quickly during the peak sun hours. The 6 programmable time slots allow charging during low-tariff periods and consumption from the battery when energy is expensive. The IP65 enclosure resists rain and dust, so it can also be mounted outdoors, and maintenance is limited to keeping the cooling openings clean.

Active power 8.000 W, maximum apparent 8.800 VA, output 3L+N+PE 230/400 V, 50/60 Hz, 12,2/11,6 A rated per phase, 100% unbalanced load allowed, peak 2 x Pn for 10 s in off-grid, AC grid-to-load pass-through up to 45 A. DC side: 2 MPPT with 2 strings each, maximum voltage 800 V, MPPT window 200-650 V, start-up at 160 V, 20+20 A input current (Isc 30+30 A), maximum module power 12.800 W; maximum efficiency 97,6%, European 97,0%, MPPT above 99,9%, THD below 3%. Lithium-ion or lead-acid battery 40-60 V, 190 A charge/discharge, AC coupling for retrofit over existing on-grid installations and storage from a diesel generator. Size 386 x 660 x 250 mm, 35,2 kg, operation -40...+60 degrees C, communication RS485, RS232, CAN and WiFi/Bluetooth; compliance IEC 61727, IEC 62116, EN 50549, VDE-AR-N 4105, EN 62109-1/2.

Who it suits

Suitable for a three-phase house with medium consumption, which installs around 8-12 kWp of panels and wants a 48 V battery for the evening and for safety during power outages.

Terms explained

  • MPPT: It is the part of the inverter that permanently looks for the point where the panels give the most current; two MPPTs mean you can have two groups of panels oriented differently, each optimised separately.
  • 100% unbalanced output: You can consume the entire power on a single phase, without being obliged to split the loads equally between the three phases of the house.
  • IP65: A code that says how well the enclosure is sealed: 6 means completely dust-tight, 5 means protected against water jets, so the device can stay outdoors.

Technical details

Specifications confirmed from the manufacturer's datasheet

Deye SUN-8K-SG05LP3-EU-SM2 is the 8 kW version of the SM2 three-phase hybrid low-voltage series (48 V). The rated active power is 8.000 W, and the maximum apparent power 8.800 VA, on a 3L+N+PE 230/400 V output, 50/60 Hz, with 12,2/11,6 A rated current per phase. It supports 100% unbalanced output between phases, a peak of 2 x the rated power for 10 s in off-grid and AC pass-through (grid-to-load) of up to 45 A.

The photovoltaic input has 2 MPPT trackers with 2 strings each, maximum DC voltage 800 V, MPPT range 200-650 V, start-up voltage 160 V and maximum input current 20+20 A (short circuit current 30+30 A). The maximum module power is 12.800 W. Maximum efficiency 97,6%, European efficiency 97,0%, MPPT efficiency above 99,9%, THD below 3%.

The battery can be lithium-ion or lead-acid, 40-60 V, with a maximum charge/discharge current of 190 A and 6 programmable time slots. The inverter accepts AC coupling for retrofit over existing installations and storage of energy from a diesel generator.
